FIDIC Sustainability Pack

FIDIC, the International Federation of Consulting Engineers, in association with EFCA, the European Federation of Consultancy Associations,  has launched the FIDIC Sustainability Pack (see brochure PDF), a new set of practical guides for use by all those involved in developing infrastructure.

Sustainability Pack

The launch took place in Barcelona at the FIDIC Centenary Conference (15-18 September) under the banner Quality of Life - Our Responsibility that focused on the urban environment where most of the consulting engineering industry's  challenges lie.

FIDIC has provided evidence that the global economy have been seriously weakened by unsustainable development and excessive consumption. It highlighted serious environmental challenges: declining biodiversity, degraded land and soil, depleted natural resources, polluted air and water, and severe climate risks

Building on previous experience, including partnerships with  international institutions (World Bank, UNEP, ISO, EC) the new FIDIC Sustainability Pack, comprises three complementary publications:

  • Rethink Cities: a FIDIC-EFCA 2013 white paper on sustainable urban development that calls for a new approach of cities (see brochure PDF).
  • Project Sustainability Logbook (1st Edition 2013): a tool to support owners and their stakeholders to collaborate on sustainability. The guidelines propose a common language, to be shared by stakeholders, for selecting the issues and objectives for specific projects or programmes together with monitoring tables for the entire project or progarmme life-cycle. Note: Project Sustainability Logbook is now called the Project/Programme Sustainability Logbook following the decision in 2014 to extend the PSL system.
  • Project Sustainability Management Application Manual (2nd Edition 2013): describes core issues that consulting engineers should consider when carrying out projects and programmes in a sustainable way.
